Tropicana’s "Tambores en Concierto", a spectacular production, is the mother of all cabaret shows based in Havana, Cuba. Acclaimed throughout the world as the oldest and largest Afro Cuban cabaret that first opened its doors on New Year's Eve 1939. One of the most lavish nightclub spectacles in the world, the show is set in the open air of a rain forest in the middle of Havana and has performed to over 2.5 million foriegn visitors. The cast of 120 performers consists of the best dancers, musicians and choreographers that Cuba has to offer and performs 365 days a year. The show generates over US$25M annually from ticket sales.
In the 1940’s was when the first series of shows would be created in the Tropicana Cabaret when Cuba was a haven for the rich and the famous. In the years to follow the show Tropicana was born. Compared to the ones seen in Las Vegas or at the famous Lido cabaret in Paris during the 50’s, Tropicana has become a legend in its own right throughout the world.
The shows have played host to such renowned stars as Nat King Cole, Josephine Baker, Celia Cruz, Liberace, Omara Portuondo (Buena Vista Social Club), Marlene Dietrich and others. Many nights the audience was just as famous. Marlon Brando, Sammy Davis, Jr., Greta Garbo and other Hollywood stars came to the cabaret. In April 2013 Beyonce and Jay Z were invited guests to see Tambores en Concierto making the venue the ideal place to be seen.
The Producers of Tambores en Concierto recently signed an exclusive film rights deal with Darchien Pictures Inc. (Toronto) and Al Tecx-PerformArts International (Montreal) for the movie “Drums of Havana”. Filming is tentatively scheduled for February 2016 to be shot in Havana and Toronto.
Tambores en Concierto and previous shows have performed internationally in England, Japan, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and numerous other destinations.
